The warmer and drier weather means our StreamCare crew is back on the banks doing weed control and the outreach team is out visiting folks along Big Creek, Pounder Creek, and Beaver Creek to answer questions about the StreamCare program and East Multnomah SWCD.

Friends of Outdoor School approached East Multnomah Soil & Water Conservation District with a unique – and urgent – request at the May 7^th Board meeting: Help keep Outdoor School running one more year.

No smart phone, no problem.  The USDA also has an online version of the soil survey.  You can select an area, make soil maps, and access reports that cover everything from drainage to the percent clay in the soil. Check it out here.

We had been noticing tiny teeth marks on our young seedlings planted in grassy areas small mouse-like rodents called voles use as habitat.

Last year, we attended a lecture at CONNECT where we learned rodents make up to 85% of a red-tail's diet and a family of barn owls will eat up to 1,000 voles during the 3-month breeding season. Intrigued, we wanted to see if we could convince the local birds to give us a hand.
