What's big and green and hiding out at EMSWCD?

Today at the EMSWCD offices we discovered a Luna Moth caterpillar!
These very large, beautiful moths are found only in North America and typically in the Eastern US and Southern Canada.
According to The Audubon Society's Field Guide to North American Insects and Spiders field guide, the moth is "now considered an endangered species because many have been killed by pollutants and pesticides."
We are excited to find this wonderful species on our landscape, particularly so soon after transitioning the property from a weed-infested lawn to a native plant landscape that is free of chemical pesticides and fertilizers.
